This week, I’m enamored of Sins of the Highlander by Connie Mason with Mia Marlowe. I love me a good historical, and this one is a keeper. Ms. Mason and Ms. Marlowe write some excellent Scot “dialect” and employ an intelligent and sometimes humorous voice for their heroine, Elspeth, and a cavalier yet haunted voice for their hero, Mad Rob. Just a few of my favorite lines:
“Hi-up!” Mad Rob bellowed at the stallion, and it leapt into a burst of speed as if being chased by a thousand demons but feared the man on its back even more. -p. 9
She shot him a glare that should have burned off his eyebrows, but since he didn’t deign to look at her, he suffered no ill effects. -p. 39
“A cow is the most biddable creature on God’s earth. It’ll go wherever it’s driven. A woman doesna drive worth a damn.” -p. 127
“What I have now isna life, Elspeth,” Rob finally said. “‘Tis but breathing.” -p. 138
I hope this whets your appetite for Elspeth and Rob’s story. Sins of the Highlander is a great read. It’s gotten some excellent reviews. The one that sold me on buying the book was by You Gotta Read Reviews:

You should definitely pick up Sins of the Highlander if you haven’t yet.
Be sure to come back next Friday to see who’s rocking my world in the fiction department.
